Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a Health Advocate?
Our healthcare system is confusing, disjointed, and ever-changing. When you or your child, your significant other or your parent are dealing with a new diagnosis or an ongoing medical condition it can be overwhelming. In addition, a study done by Johns Hopkins(1) suggests that medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. No healthcare provider wants to make a mistake, but it happens. We will be by your side to help ensure that your care is coordinated, necessary, safe, and with you in charge.
My insurance company and my hospital have patient advocates so why should I hire you?
Insurance company and hospital case managers/patient advocates are employees of those companies and are restricted by their policies and procedures and may represent competing objectives. There are usually 2-3 patient advocates per hospital while there can be several hundred patients in the hospital on any given day - how much time would that advocate have for you or your loved one? Our professional Health Advocates are hired by you and your safety, wishes and best interests will always come first.
Are your services paid for by my insurance?
Currently insurance does not cover our services. We work directly for you, allowing us to look out for your best interests. We collect payment for our services in advance and you decide how much support you want in navigating your healthcare journey.
My parents live in your area but I don't. Can I hire you to be their Health Advocate?
Absolutely! As long as your parent agrees to our services we can help. We will need authorized signatures on our Agreement for Services contract and Release of Information consent forms (HIPAA) to obtain medical records for your parent.
I just need help keeping all of my medical, insurance and doctor bills straight. Will you do that for me?
Definitely! All of that paperwork is overwhelming and stressful. Let us ease your mind by making sure that part of your life is under control.
Will you drive me to my appointments?
We can help find a service that can take you to and from your appointments however we do not transport clients.
Because you are RNs, do you provide home care?
Although we are RNs, we do not provide any type of medical services including giving medical advice. We are here to help you navigate the healthcare system, understand your condition and options, and to provide you with peace of mind.
